(ANSA) - ROME, MARCH 06 - With the modification of the rules on life imprisonment, failure to cooperate no longer constitutes a preclusive factor for conditional release, in the presence of the requirements of the length of the sentence served and "sure repentance", which, in relation to those sentenced to Life imprisonment for impeding crimes also involves "active participation in the re-education process" and the "current lack" of "connections" with the clans, and with the "context" in which the crime was committed.
For this reason, the Cassation Prosecutor's Office, represented by Pietro Gaeta and Giuseppe Riccardi - does not deem it necessary that the question of life imprisonment - which will be discussed again at the hearing set for 8 March - go back to the Consulta.
On the contrary, however, the
lawyer Giovanna Araniti who, for Salvatore Pezzino who has been incarcerated for 30 years, is asking for the end of life imprisonment, even in the absence of cooperation, and for the sending of the new regulations to the Consulta since in her opinion they are "smoky" and have only implemented a "facade" reform .
