Shark not a hammer:

An American resident of Florida was recorded on security footage while attacking a shark with a hammer.

Following this incident, he received a court summons, ignored it - and for this reason was arrested by the police.

The New York Post reports that the man, 33-year-old Brian Waddell, caught the shark while fishing in the Indian Harbor Beach area on December 20 of last year.

He continued to hit the shark until he realized that his actions were seen by people.

beat and tore the gills

According to the reports of the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, it is a lemon shark, which is considered a protected species.

But instead of releasing him back into the sea, Wadil pulled out a hammer and started hitting him.

Only then did he throw it into the water.

This brutal incident was recorded by a surveillance camera placed in the area, and local witnesses were later able to identify Wadil as the one who attacked the shark.

It was also reported that at some point Wadil turned the shark on its side and used the sharp back end of the hammer to rip out its gills.

Wadil is now facing two charges: failure to return a protected species to the wild without harm and physical harm to the sharks.

Witnesses to the incident said that Wadil continued to hit the shark until he realized that his actions were seen by people watching him.

For this reason he threw the shark back into the water - which apparently was no longer among the living.

The shark's body was swept away by the current and was not found.

Wadil, who was arrested as mentioned for ignoring the court summons, was released on $500 bail.

The lemon shark is one of 28 protected shark species in Florida.

Florida: There are sharks that are allowed to fish

It should be noted that while shark fishing is allowed in Florida by law, there are regulations regarding the species of sharks that can be fished.

Also, there are limits on the amount of sharks a person is allowed to fish, as well as on the nature and location of the fishing.

For example, the regulations differ between fishing from a boat, from a pier or from the shore itself.

When it comes to fishing from the shore, it is allowed to fish for sharks of certain species only after successfully completing an online course and receiving a permit to do so.

The lemon shark is one of 28 species of sharks that are considered protected in the country, and their fishing is prohibited under any circumstances.

A shark of this species, which earned its name due to its color, reaches a length of about 3.5 meters, a weight of about 240 kg and a lifespan in the wild of 27 years.
