Activision, the publisher of Call of Duty, is killing several old CoDs in one fell swoop that fans have been tinkering with for years. These projects are dead.
Hamburg – Call of Duty is scheduled to continue Modern Warfare 2023 directly in 2. But fans are calling for a boycott of the new CoD because the publisher is suddenly threatening to sue for injunctions against years-old fan projects. The fans can fight heavyweight Activision only with their closed wallets.

Call of Duty is now on Nintendo and threatens fans with lawsuits
Call of Duty threatens with lawsuits: Activision, the billion-dollar publisher behind games like Call of Duty, is said to be "raging wildly". Legal action has now been taken against numerous fan projects. Creative fans are all too familiar with such an approach from Nintendo, for example, who fight virtually everything from mods, leaks, old games in new graphics and fan sequels to the fiercest legal terms.
These projects are dead: First it hit the popular mod "sm2" – that was the old CoD: MW2, but with exactly the balance adjustments that fans miss in the original game. Now it also hit "X Labs", which immediately scrapped all projects for fear of an injunction. This affects the improved servers for MW2, Ghosts, Advanced Warfare and Black Ops 3. The fan projects have been worked on free of charge for several years, they even needed the original games for them.

The creators give up without a fight: "Today, we received a cease-and-desist letter on behalf of Activision Publishing regarding the X Labs project. We comply with this order and cease operations permanently. We thank you all for your support over the past few years." The task is no wonder, after all, all rights are held by Activision and a legal dispute would certainly run into the millions. Here is the Twitter tweet from May 22, 2023:
Call of Duty kills old CoDs that should have been dead for a long time – fans call for boycott
Community fights back: The creators behind the fan projects would like to thank the players for their support over the years. Fearing that the "Plutonium" project will soon have to close the doors, the community is now freaking out. Because there is no longer any chance of experiencing the old CoDs – since official servers have been partially shut down or hackers are up to mischief there unhindered.

Some fans now want to hit Activision where it hurts: on the wallet. For example, under a YouTube video titled "Activision rages like crazy against the Call of Duty community", there is a call for the renunciation of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 (MW3 for short):
We absolutely have to boycott the next CoD title. We really need to show it to Activision.
