Minister of the Interior, Matteo Piantedosi, had a telephone conversation with his Austrian counterpart Gerhard Karner on issues related to the negotiation of the European Asylum and Migration Pact. (ANSA) - ROME, JUNE 01 - No to the relaunch of relocations and forms of economic compensation, yes to the blocking of departures and repatriations. This is the position of the Italian Government, according to the Minister of the Interior, Matteo Piantedosi, who today had a telephone conversation with his Austrian counterpart Gerhard Karner on issues related to the negotiation of the European Asylum and Migration Pact, in view of the Justice and Home Affairs Council scheduled for next week in Luxembourg.
The conversation with the Austrian minister, informs the Interior Ministry, "was useful to underline the Italian position in the ongoing negotiations. Our country - it is emphasized - does not support any hypothesis of relaunching the mechanism of location in view of the failure of the agreement reached by the previous government last June, nor of forms of economic compensation, considered equally bankrupt ".
"The negotiating line of the Italian Government, which was represented by Minister Piantedosi to his Austrian counterpart in today's meeting - continues the ministry - is oriented primarily to initiatives aimed at blocking departures and increasing repatriations, through the strengthening also at European level of bilateral collaboration relations already undertaken by Italy".
