Dispute in the Sea of ​​Japan: Russian Coast Guard apparently arrest dozens of North Koreans

In a dispute with North Korean fishermen, three members of the Russian Coast Guard have been injured, according to Moscow. The Coast Guard has stopped two North Korean trawlers in Russia's economic zone off the coast of Primorye, the Russian security FSB said. The crew of one of the cutter had then launched an "armed attack" on the ship of the Coast Guard.

The more than 65 inmates of the two fishing boats were arrested and the North Korean chargé d'affaires in Moscow were summoned to the Russian Foreign Ministry, the news agencies Interfax and Ria Novosti reported. More than 80 people were arrested, according to Reuters.

Relying on the FSB, Russian news agencies and local media continued to report that the Russian border guards also caught 11 sailors from the neighboring country illegally fishing with eleven motorboats. North Korea has so far not commented on the incident.

In the Sea of ​​Japan, which apart from North Korea and Russia are also Japan and South Korea, and which, according to the South Korean version, is called the "Baltic Sea", there is a constant dispute over fishing rights. According to experts, Pyongyang urges its fishermen to go further and further out to the sea, hoping for a bigger catch.
