Russia and China have vetoed a UN Security Council resolution aimed at protecting terrorists in Idlib under the pretext of cessation of hostilities.
Russia's permanent representative to the United Nations, Vasily Nebenzia, said during a session of the Security Council on the situation in Syria that the Western draft resolution submitted to the Security Council aims to save terrorists in Idlib.
Nebenzia said the draft resolution ignores the issue of fighting terrorism in Syria and Moscow will not support it for this reason.
"The terrorists in Idlib continue to violate the agreement to reduce the escalation in Idlib and to attack neighboring areas and Hmeimim base," Nebenzia said.
For his part, China's Deputy Permanent Representative to the United Nations Wu Hai Tao stressed during the necessity of solving the crisis in Syria politically in accordance with UN Resolution 2254 and safeguarding Syria's sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity.
