The UN Security Council reaffirmed its commitment to the sovereignty, independence, unity and territorial integrity of Syria, pointing out that the solution to the crisis is achieved peacefully.
The Council stressed in a presidential statement today that the establishment of the Constitution Discussion Committee led and owned by Syria "marks the beginning of the political process aimed at ending the crisis in accordance with Security Council resolution 2254 to meet the aspirations of all Syrians," noting his support for the first meeting of the Committee in Geneva at the end of this month.
The UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres noted in his announcement on 23 September last of the agreement on the formation of the Constitutional Commission of the efforts made by the Syrian government with the UN Special Envoy to Syria, non-Pederson to reach the formation of this committee, explaining that the United Nations will facilitate its work
