(CNN) - Pittsburgh's morning travelers lived an unusual Monday after a bus fell back into a sink, leaving the front half of the bus hanging several meters above the track.

The Port Authority bus was stopped at a red light when a rectangular hole was opened in the street, just below it, swallowing the rear half of the vehicle, Allegheny County authorities said.

According to the officers, only two people (the driver and a passenger) were on board when the bus sank. Both were able to leave safely and the passenger was being treated for minor injuries.

Another car behind the bus stopped near the sink, and the driver got out of the vehicle safely, said CND affiliate KDKA.

A crane came to the scene to drag the sunken bus off the track.
