Ten people were killed by lightning strikes in the western Indian state of Maharashtra.

The official Xinhua news agency quoted an official from the Indian Meteorological Department as saying that the lightning lightning incident came after rain and thunderstorms in three areas in Akola, Amravati and Nanded.

The Indian Meteorological Department forecast heavy rains today in the southern states of Kerala and Lakshadweep, as well as in Tamil Nadu and Karnataka.
