(CNN Spanish) - The authorities in the Dominican Republic reinforced on Thursday the border with Haiti due to the political crisis affecting that country, according to Minister Rubén Paulino Sem during a tour with journalists in that area.

The official said that about 10,000 soldiers have been deployed to four key points in the border area, in addition to the use of technological equipment such as drones and cameras.

The Ministry of Defense said it keeps the border in check before the wave of protests that demand the resignation of President Jovenel Moïse.

According to Sem, so far there have been no reports of violence on the Dominican side since the demonstrations intensified in September.

He added that they are prepared to control any incident and the possible increase in the flow of Haitians trying to flee the crisis.
