ISLAMABAD (AP) - Pakistani authorities have closed all schools in the eastern city of Lahore, the capital of Punjab province

Islamabad-Sana

Pakistani authorities have closed all schools in Lahore, capital of the eastern Punjab province, because of serious air pollution.

The Associated Press, citing Pakistani government sources, said the city's air quality index was 114 this morning, a dangerous rate, while heavy smog caused by burning crop residues in nearby lands still covered the skies.

Heavy traffic and logging in the city for years have also caused air quality.
