Abandonment of constituencies: Farages Brexit Party wants to help Johnson to victory

2019-11-11T18:25:51.530Z

The Brexit party of Nigel Farage does not want to play in the parliamentary election in December in almost half of the 650 constituencies. Thus, it tends to increase the electoral prospects of the Conservatives of Premier Johnson.

In the British general election in December, the Brexit Party wants to make the conservatives no competition and does not occur in 317 constituencies. That announced party leader Nigel Farage. Only a week ago he had talked about setting up 600 candidates.

In defense, Farage said his party wanted to focus on constituencies the Labor party won last. In addition, they wanted to conquer mandates, which would be held by advocates of a stay in the EU.

The reluctance of the Brexit party thus tends to increase the electoral chances of Prime Minister Boris Johnson. This also has to do with the majority voting right in the UK. Only the candidate with the most votes wins in the respective constituencies, all others go empty-handed.

The outcome of the early parliamentary election on 12 December is uncertain (read more here). In the polls, Johnson's conservative Tories last had a big lead over Corbyn's Labor Party. Johnson hopes for a clear majority to get his Brexit deal through Parliament.

"Today Trump got his way"

Opposition leader and Labor Party leader Jeremy Corbyn said Farage was acting at the behest of US President Donald Trump. This had demanded a pact with Johnson: "Today Trump got his will."

Trump had publicly urged Johnson and Farage to join forces earlier this month. An alliance will secure the prospect of expanded US-UK trade after leaving the European Union, Trump said. When asked which British leader he supported, Trump said, "They're both friends of mine, and I think Boris will do it right." Johnson is "the right man for the time". "What I'd like to see is that Nigel and Boris get together, I think that's a possibility."

Labor leader Jeremy Corbyn had announced that in the event of an electoral victory he would revise the Brexit agreement negotiated by Johnson with the EU and then put it to the vote in a new referendum. Farage said he wanted to prevent a second referendum.
