District Council elections were held yesterday (24th), with a turnout rate of 71.2%, a record high. The Chief Executive, Mrs Carrie Lam, said that the electors hoped to express their views through this election. I sincerely thank the public for their active vote in the district board elections.

The press release stated that the SAR government respects the results of this election. Lin Zheng pointed out that he noticed that there were many analyses and interpretations of the results in the workshop. Many pointed out that the results reflected the public's dissatisfaction with the current situation of society and deep-seated problems. She said that the SAR Government will listen to the public's opinions with humility and seriously reflect on it.

Lin Zheng said that because of the recent social events, this year's district board elections were conducted in a very difficult environment. Therefore, Lin Zheng thanked all the candidates for not challenging the participation in the election. District Councils are an important part of the political system. Apart from reflecting regional opinions and promoting community building, they also play an active role in monitoring public services in the region.

She said that with the appointment of the sixth district board on January 1, 2020, the SAR government will strengthen cooperation with district boards to jointly solve regional problems of public concern. Mr Lam also thanked the district board members who were leaving the office, saying that they have served many times in the district for many years and have contributed a lot to improving the living conditions of residents in the district.

Lin Zheng said that yesterday's polling day was roughly carried out in a peaceful, safe and orderly manner. After more than five months of social unrest, she is convinced that the vast majority of citizens, like me, hope that peace, security and order can continue.

Lin Zheng finally thanked the Electoral Affairs Commission and more than 30,000 civil servants and colleagues for their hard work in making this election a smooth one.
