Beijing-Sana
The Chinese Foreign Ministry has summoned the US ambassador to protest against US interference in its internal affairs, particularly in Hong Kong.
Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Qing Zhiguang summoned US Ambassador to Beijing Terry Branstad to inform him of a "strong protest," the ministry said on its website on Thursday.
The US Congress has adopted a resolution supporting rioters and violence in Hong Kong. Beijing said the resolution "brazenly interferes in China's internal affairs and supports the criminal and violent behavior of the anti-China forces that are causing trouble in Hong Kong."
Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said yesterday that Hong Kong is part of China and will remain so and any attempt to create chaos or even harm its prosperity and stability will not succeed.
Hong Kong has been the scene of violent protests by protesters on the pretext of amending the regulations of fugitive offenders and mutual legal assistance in criminal matters, which China has condemned as a sign of organized terrorism, while rejecting any attempts to interfere in the region as purely an internal affair.
