2019-12-27T09:59:28.725Z

Sai Sha Road in Sai Kung is the main road between Sai Kung and Ma On Shan. In addition to the Sai Kung Highway, there are also many vehicles passing there. Some people in the area said that recently, many neighbours have received reports that the street lights on the section from Nai Chung to Dadong all failed. As it is a rural location, it will be dark at night if there are no street lights, which seriously affects driving safety. Traffic accidents are also common in this area. Although the street lights have now returned to normal, he has reported the incident to the Highways Department, hoping to find out the source of the problem.

District Council Member Tan Erpei of Sai Kung North stated that since November, at least three neighborhoods have told him that street lights on Xisha Road have failed. As far as he knows, the street lights are "sometimes broken". When broken, the entire road section will be very dark. Some motorists said that whenever a street light fails, the vehicle needs to “turn on the headlights”, but this will affect the sight of the lead vehicle. In addition, if anyone crosses the road at night, it is difficult for the driver to inspect and road safety is threatened.

"The Highways Department said that the bad street light was caused by a jump fuse (short circuit). The contractor has gone to check it several times, but all of them are broken." Tan Erpei said that he had continuous contact with the Highways Department. He visited the site on 18th and 24th December. He also took the bus himself to observe yesterday (26th). Although the street lights were working normally at that time, he still hoped to find the source of the problem. He said that the department is currently underway to widen the Xisha Road. It is unknown whether street lights will cause problems due to underground drilling. He hoped that the relevant departments could investigate and explain as soon as possible.
