Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova criticized the United States' pursuit of a hegemonic policy, noting that this policy is returning Washington to "the time of the Wild West".
Zacharova was quoted by Sputnik as saying, commenting on a picture published by the US administration after the visit of Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov to Washington in which US President Donald Trump appears sitting at the table in the Oval Office and Lavrov stands beside him: “The US State Department and the White House lack what is called protocol fitness ... And I think a lot of things went back to the days of the Wild West that we read a lot about in textbooks. ”
"At the time of the cowboys ... it was comfortable and effective to put your feet on the table," Zakharova added, adding, "This is how we live today with the United States indifferent to world politics."
"The situation is similar in the global economy, too," the Zakharova said. "The United States used to talk about priority and the rule of competition. Now they are pursuing protectionism, sanctions and political interference in economic life."
The Russian foreign minister visited Washington on December 10, during which he met his American counterpart Mike Pompeo and Trump.
