Fortunately, the two people in the car suffered only minor injuries.
The incident occurred at more than 9 am on January 3. During the self-driving tour of Japan, two Hong Kong men and women in their 20s crashed into a JR Nemuro Line limited express train when they reached a level crossing at Shimizu-cho, Tokachi-gun, Hokkaido. The front of the car was severely damaged, the airbag popped up, and two people in the car were slightly injured. They were sent to a doctor for treatment.
Multiple trains delayed after the incident
The local police quoted the female driver as saying that the brakes had been applied at the time of the incident, but the private car still rushed into the level crossing. Suspected that the brakes were too late and crashed into the train, the Japanese police investigated whether driving on an icy road caused an accident.
This accident caused 14 trains to be delayed after JR, with a maximum delay of 2 hours and 40 minutes, affecting about 1,850 passengers.
