Last updated: 2020-01-24 14:02Mak artist Jens Galschiøt created a 8-meter-high bronze statue of Pillar of Shame to express his support for Hong Kong demonstrators. It was erected on January 23 under the witness of various political parties in Denmark Outside the Capitol.
The statue is based on the theme of Hong Kong's protests, and the shape incorporates many symbols of Hong Kong demonstrators, such as helmets, eye masks, and gas masks. The base also has a sign that says "Denmark stands with Hong Kong". It is expected that It will be displayed outside the Danish Parliament building for three months.
Gao Zhihuo said that the new "pillar of the state" was created by him in cooperation with the Danish political party "Alternative" and Amnesty International, and has won support from multiple local political parties. He told Deutsche News Agency the day before the statue standing ceremony that the work of art "speaks in support of human rights and world justice and environmental development."
Gao Zhihuo once created a total of five "National Pillars", one of which is located on the platform of the Huang Kejing Building of the University of Hong Kong to commemorate the June 4th incident. As for the other four National Pillars, they are located in Italy, Mexico, Brazil and Germany.
