Around 12.30 p.m. on Monday, February 17th, 2020, a witness had alarmed the rescue workers. The woman had seen a cloud of smoke rising behind Fichtestrasse in Dreieich-Sprendlingen (Offenbach district). There was a fire in a storage area for old huts, containers and sheds. An old caravan was on fire.
Shortly afterwards, the dead man was found in the caravan, who, according to the police, could be a man “from the homeless milieu”. Witnesses stated that a man from the "Eastern European region" regularly stayed at the Dreieich camp near Offenbach.
