(CNN) - Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson have returned to the United States after being quarantined in Australia.

"We are already home and, like the rest of the United States, we continue to take refuge and exercise social distancing," Hanks tweeted Saturday.

The couple tested positive for the new coronavirus earlier this month while in Australia, where Hanks had been working on the pre-production of a film about the life of singer Elvis Presley. Hanks was selected to play Presley's manager, "The Colonel" Tom Parker, in the film. The production of the project has been suspended.

“Many, many thanks to everyone in Australia who took care of us. His care and guidance made our return to the United States possible. And thank you very much to all who sent us their good wishes. Rita and I highly value it, ”wrote the actor.

The couple shared their isolation experience, offered advice to those who stayed at home, and even Wilson rapped the 1992 hip hop hit "Hip Hop Hooray" by rap group Naughty by Nature.
