The Vatican welcomed Tuesday's acquittal of Australian cardinal George Pell, formerly one of his closest collaborators to Pope Francis, in a resounding case of pedophilia.

"The Holy See, which has always had faith in Australian justice, welcomes the unanimous High Court verdict against Cardinal George Pell, who clears him of all charges of assault on minors," said the Vatican in a statement.
