District - After weeks of school closure, the final classes returned to secondary schools on Monday. At the Penzberger Gymnasium, 106 high school graduates started preparing for the exam. Many of them would have been happy to return to their school and meet with classmates they hadn't seen for a long time, headmaster Bernhard Kerscher reported on Monday afternoon.

Gymnasium Penzberg: Only a maximum of 15 students in each classroom

In order to best protect her and her teachers from being infected with the corona virus, a concept had been considered. "We have developed a block system in which half the team is taught in each of the five examination subjects," explains Kerscher. The other half can learn in specially designed study rooms. There are classes only in the subjects relevant to the examination. In each classroom, there were now a maximum of 15 students at individual tables with a minimum distance of 1.50 meters from each other.

Distance in corona times: one-way regulation in the Penzberg high school

In order to implement these requirements more easily, the students had to move from their previous classrooms to larger rooms in another part of the building. "The disadvantage is that the distances are now longer," says Kerscher. Because many aisles and stairs are quite narrow, the school management also developed a “one-way regulation” and opened an escape staircase.

Shortly before school started at 8 a.m., Kerscher stood at the entrances with some colleagues on Monday - to greet the students, but also to calm the anxious among them and to exhort others to adhere to the distance rules. “The school is decorated with warning signs and hygiene rules,” says Kerscher.

Penzberg High School: No mask requirement, but many wear mouth and nose protection

On Saturday he personally picked up a load of simple protective masks in Weilheim so that he could hand them out to the students if necessary. But everyone, he says, would have had their own masks. There is no mask requirement. But most students would wear a mouth-nose mask. Emilia Weingand is one of them. "It was unusual at the beginning," says the 17-year-old Penzberger after the first five school hours. In the meantime, however, she has got used to it and also thinks the masks are important. "As protection for the others."

It is part of the strict hygiene concept that the classrooms are now cleaned every day instead of every two days as before. At the wash basins, which are available in all rooms, there is sufficient soap and disposable towels, says Kerscher. Door handles would be cleaned but not disinfected. Schoolgirl Emilia says all students take the situation seriously and abide by the new rules. These rules can only be implemented with high school graduates, says Kerscher. It will be much more difficult if the next grade returns to school from May 11th.

Around 220 students have been visiting FOS / BOS in Weilheim since Monday

Most of the students, around 220, have been visiting the FOS / BOS in Weilheim since Monday. "Our class is divided," reports Theresa Bierprigl (17) from Weilheim. She is in a social-agricultural class, the students of each subject are in separate rooms. The class teacher had given them lots of hygiene information and important information about grades and final exams at the beginning - and then disappeared next door to tell the rest of the class the same thing. “But there was always another teacher to supervise,” says Bierprigl. With the constant back and forth that was "quite a mess, but it worked quite well," said Bierprigl.

They had to spend the breaks in the classroom, and if you had to get up in the class or go to the toilet, which was only allowed on your own, you had to put on mouth protection, reports Bierprigl. She has normal classes on Mondays and Tuesdays, only on Wednesdays and Thursdays in the afternoon to correct the situation. "Basically, most of the students were happy that the school was finally back in class," says Bierprigl. "All teachers were also in a good mood - even teachers who are usually not always so friendly," says Bierprigl and laughs.
