Coronavirus: No return to normal before a vaccine is found, advocates World Rugby

World Rugby wants matches to be played behind closed doors until a Covid-19 vaccine is available.


In a report presented by medical experts from World Rugby, the international federation announces that only the discovery of an effective vaccine against the coronavirus will allow a resumption of the competitions and the return of the supporters in the stadiums. It also specifies that the national championships cannot be relaunched until the governments authorize the gatherings of more than 250 people.

These recommendations will soon be transmitted to all professional and amateur clubs. The medical experts also point out that at the resumption of training, the players must respect a physical distance of 1.5 meters and wear gloves and masks as much as possible.

A harmonized calendar between North and South

Barely elected at the head of World Rugby, Bill Beaumont and Bernard Laporte want to take advantage of the uncertainties around the resumption of competitions to try to harmonize the world rugby calendar. “We are currently discussing to group together the July and November tours in a single window. Juxtaposing these two windows is the best option for the future. (...) There is currently a real dialogue, an authentic spirit of collaboration between the North and the South. It's time to align the planets, to harmonize the calendars of the North and the South, "the two leaders told  Le Figaro .
