He Yanfeng, chief investigator of criminal investigation in Kwun Tong Police District, said that on April 29 he received two merchants from Lai Tin Hui King Road shopping mall for help. He said that a man and a woman bought telephone MON stickers and underwear in the shopping mall, and paid 500 yuan in cash. . The two merchants are not guilty of fraud, and both are renewed with cash. However, it was later discovered that the 500 yuan banknotes received had a poor feel and no anti-counterfeiting features, and they suspected of being cheated. The two merchants lost a total of about 1,000 yuan.

The police later checked the CCTV video and locked the identity of the two suspects. Yesterday (5th) afternoon, a 21-year-old man and a 19-year-old woman were arrested in a flat in Cha Kwo Ling Road private housing estate. The two were in a relationship and reported to be unemployed. During the operation, police officers seized a stack of 100 pieces of counterfeit banknotes with a face value of 500 yuan at the unit. The words "exercise vouchers" were printed on the unit, but the counterfeit banknotes involved were not. The police believe that the suspects had relevant words before using them.

Inspector General Deng Shunren of the Commercial Crime Investigation Branch pointed out that in recent months more fraudsters have used fraudulent 500 yuan banknotes in retail stores to defraud. Deng pointed out that most of the counterfeit banknotes found in Hong Kong are of low quality, without bumpy feel, and the paper quality is smoother; real banknotes have obvious bumpy feel. When the dynamic discoloration pattern in the upper right corner tilts, the light pattern will scroll up and down, and the watermark and built-in integrity metal wires. He reminded members of the public to contact banks and the police if they received counterfeit banknotes, and not to use them. Deng added that in 2018 the police found a total of 3,000 counterfeit banknotes, while in 2019 it found 8006 counterfeit banknotes. The increase last year was mainly due to a large number of "practice vouchers" seized in November.
