(CNN Spanish) - A brigade of the US Army He will arrive in Colombia in early June to collaborate in the fight against drug trafficking.
It is a specialized unit formed to advise and collaborate in operations with allied nations called Security Force Assistance (SFAB).
As reported on Wednesday by the US Embassy. In Colombia, this mission will last for several months and will focus mainly on areas delimited by the Colombian government.
According to Craig Faller, commander-in-chief of the US Southern Command, the mission in Colombia is an opportunity to show, “our mutual commitment against drug trafficking and support for regional peace, respect for sovereignty and lasting promise. to defend shared ideals and values ”.

For his part, the Colombian Defense Minister, Carlos Holmes Trujillo added that drug trafficking is one of the main engines of violence that affects communities, “drug trafficking murders our peasants, destroys forests, wildlife and it pollutes the rivers and seas of Colombia ”.
According to the official note, it is the first time that this brigade has worked with a country in the Latin American region.
