Deutsche Telekom has tried to dismantle the last public telephone in town several times. This fails due to the resistance of the community.
If it were up to Telekom, the public telephone on Glonner Strasse, right in front of the church, would be gone long ago. It is now the last public telephone in the municipal area and, according to Telekom, is no longer used. The local council decidedly rejected the dismantling.
Every few years the phone is on the agenda of the local council. And the request of the telephone company to dismantle the telephone is rejected with the same regularity, even if it claims that the base telephone is no longer used. "Anyone who walks over Glonner Strasse to the church center has been passing this phone for decades, which is in a central location with the town center, the main detour route for the A99, bus stops and churches," said Edwin Klostermeier. He firmly believes that there are still citizens who do not have a cell phone because they cannot afford it or for other reasons. "So I think it makes sense to keep the phone line," said the mayor. Eduard Boger (CSU) fully agreed with him, "The phone in the middle of the village, at the church center and the bus stop is extremely important for emergency calls or other occasions." Robert Böck (GPP) was able to continue the lively discussion on the topic before five years ago, “the arguments and facts have not changed since then. And if Telekom pays a few euros a year, it won't hurt the company. ”Georg Seilbeck (SPD) also vigorously advocated keeping the telephone. The local council therefore unanimously rejected Telekom's request, and Klostermeier commented on the regularly recurring request with the words: "I vote against until the phone is a listed building, then they must not tear it away."
