The city of Schongau is taking further steps to push redevelopment projects and tap attractive funding pools for them. The “Schongauer Lechumlauf” urban area is now also being examined. A preliminary investigation for the Schongau-West district was only decided at the previous city council meeting.

Schongau - The first investigations of the Lechumlauf funding area have already been carried out and decided for the ISEK, the urban development concept, now it should go into more detail. City architect Sebastian Dietrich reported this in the last meeting of the city council before the summer break. There are already two study areas, the historic old town and the Lechvorstadt, now the redevelopment area Lechumlauf with Lechuferstraße or the topic of the train station is to be added. In the future there will only be three urban development funding programs, said Dietrich. There are also new funding guidelines. As is also stored in the ISEK, above all the public space and the green spaces are to be improved, the quality of living and living is to be increased, but areas that were previously subordinate to urban development are also to be redesigned. The city council should be provided with detailed documents and still have the opportunity to deal intensively with them, said Dietrich.

“It's a good idea to formally designate it as a redevelopment area,” praised Friedrich Zeller. The SPD city council, however, addressed a project that, as things stand, is outside the box, but in its view urgently needs to be tackled: the Holltreppe. He suggested defining the redevelopment area a little differently and integrating this important pedestrian relationship. "It will all be very expensive there because it is in the area," Zeller feared. Dietrich confirmed that the staircase is currently not included, but the routing is an important connecting element. He wanted to clarify with the government of Upper Bavaria whether there was a possibility.

Kornelia Funke (CSU) also praised the procedure and emphasized in this context that she placed “value on public participation”. "I have already observed this at ISEK, it is important to take the population with us." This will have to wait a while, as Dietrich indicated. First of all, the city planning department has a lot of work to do to develop the “Socially Integrative City” redevelopment area in Schongau-West. The city council had only unanimously approved this preliminary investigation one meeting earlier, at the beginning of July. The process is complicated. “And we also want to do an exhibition on ISEK,” added Mayor Falk Sluyterman. "We are currently in the process of preparing when and where this can take place, but it depends on Corona."

Bettina Buresch (Greens) also liked the redevelopment area. “But I cannot understand why the areas around the V-Markt and the strip at Faulen Graben were not included.” She sees a great need for action there, in particular. "The tendency is rather that the redevelopment area is too large, the focus should be on buildings from the 1960s and 70s," explained the city architect. At Haldenbergerstrasse, for example, the layout will be a little smaller. It is important that the Gebatstraße be included, but the area will overall “shrink a bit at the edges. We are not allowed to include everything according to the watering can principle, ”said Dietrich. The city council unanimously approved the preparatory investigations. The exact coverage of the redevelopment area is still being worked out.
