According to statistics from the Census and Statistics Department, the provisional population of Hong Kong in mid-2020 is 7,509,200, an increase of 0.02% from mid-2019, the lowest increase in the past decade. The natural population growth (births minus deaths) from mid-2019 to mid-2020 is 600, of which 49,500 were born and 48,900 died. In the same period, the net number of Hong Kong residents moving (incoming minus moving out) was 1,200, of which 22,100 were from one-way permit holders and 20,900 were from other Hong Kong residents.

In addition, among the total population in mid-2020, permanent residents accounted for 7,355,800; while floating residents, i.e., staying in Hong Kong for at least 1 month but less than 3 months in the 6 months before the time of statistics, accounted for 153,400. It was down 21.8% from the same period a year ago.

The authorities stated that the latest population figures are "provisional figures" and the revised figures will be announced in the next six months.
