Three men, of Chechen origin, arrested Friday in Saint-Dizier (Haute-Marne), armed with knives, wooden sticks and a saber, and suspected of having organized themselves to take revenge for an assault, must be presented on Sunday to an examining magistrate with a view to their indictment, according to the Chaumont prosecutor's office.

A judicial investigation for the illegal transport of category D weapons and criminal association must be opened to continue the investigations, in particular to determine the "extent" of the call for revenge that circulated between them, said the prosecutor of the Republic of Chaumont, Frédéric Nahon.

Originally from a department bordering Haute-Marne, they are suspected of having wanted to go to Saint-Dizier to fight, after a man from the Chechen community in his thirties was slightly injured in a brawl in the Vert-Bois district on Thursday evening.

"Prevent any risk of reprisals"

According to the first elements of the investigation for violence targeting this brawl, he found himself in the middle of a conflict between families in this neighborhood. There have been no arrests for the time being in this case.

To "prevent any risk of reprisals", the prefect of Haute-Marne and the departmental director of public security had deployed Friday "a reinforced preventive security device" in this city of about 25,000 inhabitants.

The police had checked several vehicles and arrested sixteen men from the Chechen community on board who did not live in Saint-Dizier. They then discovered tools, knives, wooden sticks and a saber, in the vehicles.

Some searches took place at the homes of some of them. Three of the men arrested had been released on Saturday, without charges against them.

Since Thursday evening, there has been no violence or disturbance to public order.
