Porsche Panamera (April 2009): The manipulations are supposed to affect engines that were built between 2008 and 2013
Photo: AFPAccording to a media report, the sports car manufacturer Porsche has been investigating a suspected manipulation internally since June. In the case of gasoline engines, illegal changes to hardware and software are said to have been made in series production - and only after the so-called approval typing of the Federal Motor Transport Authority (KBA), as "Bild am Sonntag" reported in advance. It's not just about exhaust systems, but also about engine components. Porsche itself reported the suspicion to the KBA and the responsible public prosecutor in Stuttgart as well as the authorities in the USA.

In a statement, Porsche announced that it would regularly and continuously check technical and regulatory aspects of its vehicles. As part of such internal reviews, Porsche identified issues and - as in the past - brought them to the attention of the authorities. At the moment, employees are being asked for discussions, meeting minutes and hundreds of thousands of emails are being examined for clues.
"According to the information from the internal tests, these issues only affect vehicles that were developed a few years ago. There is no evidence that vehicles in ongoing production are affected," said the carmaker's statement. Porsche is currently investigating the matter and is in close coordination with the authorities.
According to the newspaper, these are engines that were developed between 2008 and 2013, including those of the Panamera and the 911 series. The KBA has now officially initiated an investigation.
