Due to Corona, major events are taboo until the end of 2020. But what about the Tegernsee Valley Montgolfiade? Can it at least take place at the beginning of next year? It looks good.
- The ban on major events was extended until the end of 2020
- The Tegernsee Valley Montgolfiade should take place in early 2021
- The TTT is currently working on a smaller supporting program
Bad Wiessee - "That was to be expected", says Christian Kausch, Managing Director of Tegernseer Tal Tourismus GmbH (TTT). On Thursday the federal and state governments decided that the nationwide ban on major events would be extended until the end of December. This no longer has any consequences for the three large Advent markets around the lake - they were canceled a few weeks ago due to the corona pandemic. But what about the Tegernsee Valley Montgolfiade? The big balloner meeting would traditionally take place in the Tegernsee at the end of January / beginning of February.
As it currently looks, the Montgolfiade will take place in 2021, explains Kausch when asked by the Tegernseer Zeitung . However, in a reduced form and with a less popular supporting program than before. "We are planning the Montgolfiade as a team event," explains the TTT boss. In other words: The balloonists and their teams will arrive this time and - if the weather is fine - they will provide great photo opportunities in the sky above Tegernsee.
Large restaurant market not feasible due to corona regulations
As for the program around it, the TTT wants to bake smaller rolls in view of the Corona crisis. A large gastro and culinary market, as it has so far mostly taken place on the Wiese promenade, will probably not be an option. "Thousands of people are pushing in at once - it cannot be controlled," Kausch points out. The hygiene regulations demanded by the government cannot be met. Whether smaller parties or concerts for the Montgolfiade can be realized instead, will be seen in the next few weeks, says Kausch. “It won't be comparable to the Montgolfiade this year,” the TTT boss admits. But it doesn't have to: After all, the hot-air balloonists celebrated an anniversary at their most recent meeting at Tegernsee in February - it was the 20th Tegernsee Valley Montgolfiade.
Even without markets, there should be a magical Advent atmosphere at Tegernsee
As far as the events in 2021 are concerned in general, the planning is currently mostly as if they were going to take place, explains Kausch. However, you try to organize it in the background so that there are as few costs as possible in the event of a cancellation. For example, by negotiating special cancellation conditions. Even the magical Advent atmosphere that has become dear to the Tegernsee should not completely fall victim to the coronavirus. According to Kausch, individual stalls and campfire sites, guided tours of the homeland and boat trips could provide “a little atmosphere”.
