The third wave of new crown pneumonia in Hong Kong has not yet subsided, and for the first time a person in custody has contracted the epidemic.
Zhang Zhujun, director of the Infectious Diseases Division of the Centre for Health Protection, said that a 54-year-old person in custody at the Lai Chi Kok Reception Center was initially diagnosed. He had been to the Siu Lam Psychiatric Center and had at least one close contact.
A total of about 750 staff and persons in custody of the two centers will be tested.

Zhang Zhujun said that the initially diagnosed person in custody is 54 years old. After he appeared in court on August 21, he was remanded in the Xiaolan Psychiatric Treatment Center, isolated with another person in custody, shared meals and shared bathrooms.
On September 4, after he went to court again, he was transferred to the Lai Chi Kok Reception Center, where he was transferred to Queen Elizabeth Hospital because of a high fever.
The Centre for Health Protection will follow up at the Siu Lam Psychiatric Treatment Centre and Lai Chi Kok Reception Centre. There is at least one close contact with Siu Lam. He also had contact with other people when he went to court, and was accompanied by other persons in custody during remand.
The centre will distribute sample bottles to staff and persons in custody at Siu Lam and Lai Chi Kok Reception Centres to trace the source of the disease.
Siu Lam has 150 staff and 200 to 300 persons in custody to be tested; Lai Chi Kok Reception Centre initially has 300 people to be tested.
Zhang Zhujun added that the patient had lived in Meisheng Building, Shek Kip Mei Village, and he needed to reassess whether he was infected in the community.
