Turkey joined the voices tonight (Saturday) opposing Bahrain's decision to establish diplomatic ties with Israel.

Ankara reacted angrily to the princesses' announcement of normalization of relations, claiming that it was undermining the defense of the Palestinian struggle.

A statement issued by the Turkish Foreign Ministry stated that the move was an encouragement to the Israeli occupation, and that Turkey strongly condemned it.

"This will encourage Israel to continue its illegitimate actions in the matter of Palestine, and its efforts to make the occupation of Palestinian lands permanent," it said.

This announcement follows Turkey's previous reservations about decisions by Arab and Muslim countries to establish relations with Israel, as part of the firm line led by President Recep Tayyip Erdogan against Israel, and his firm stand on the side of the Palestinians.

Ankara also condemned the decisions of Kosovo and Serbia earlier this month to open an embassy in Jerusalem, as well as the normalization agreement between Israel and the United Arab Emirates, which was announced in August.

After Kosovo and Serbia announced, as part of an agreement between them, that they would open embassies in Jerusalem, the Turkish Foreign Ministry condemned the move.

"Even the thought of the government in Kosovo to take such a step, which is a clear violation of international law, is disappointing."

So, in Ankara, they called on Kosovo, a country with which Turkey has close ties, to refrain from steps that would harm Jerusalem's legal status, and also called Serbia's decision "very worrying."

Also in August, following the announcement by Israel and the United Arab Emirates of their decision to normalize relations, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan attacked Abu Dhabi, and even announced that he would consider suspending diplomatic relations with the country and closing its Turkish embassy following the agreement.

"The history and conscience of the peoples of the region will not forget or forgive the hypocritical behavior of the Emirates," the Turkish Foreign Ministry said in a statement issued by the Turkish president.

"The Palestinian people and their leadership have the right to show firm opposition to the 'Abraham Agreement.'"

Ankara has also implicitly criticized the United States for its role in mediating the agreement, which violates the Saudi peace initiative adopted by the Arab League in 2002, according to Turkey.

"It is extremely worrying that the UAE, in a unilateral action, will try to move away from the Arab League's 2002 peace initiative of the Arab League," the Turkish Foreign Ministry said at the time.

"There is no credibility in the fact that this tripartite declaration is presented as supporting the Palestinian cause."
