At night, when there is a bang: Wolfratshausers feel that they are being put to sleep by Bahn

A couple from Wolfratshausen feel deprived of sleep. Unclean welds on the S-Bahn track are responsible for this.

A couple from Wolfratshausen feel deprived of sleep.

Unclean welds on the S-Bahn track are responsible for this.

  • The Lambls have had enough - enough of the noise on their doorstep.

  • Martin Lambl identified a section of the S-Bahn track as the cause of the "popping".

  • Lambl suspects that the welding work was not carried out properly.

Wolfratshausen

- As soon as the S-Bahn passes the garden of Martin Lambl and his wife Christine, you can hear a monotonous rustling for a few seconds.

The couple got used to this decades ago.

"We hardly even notice it anymore," says Christine Lambl.

Or so she thought.

Since repair work was carried out on the track a few weeks ago, the couple has been woken up at night.

In addition to the monotonous noise, the train bangs, hits or rattles - there are different interpretations - along the tracks that are less than five meters from the Lambl family's garden fence.

I still saw the steam locomotives here.

Not even they were as loud as the noise the train is making now. "

Martin Lambl

Martin Lambl sits in front of that fence when he talks about the reasons for his insomnia.

Some sections of the track have been replaced in the past few weeks and welded as usual.

You can see that very clearly in the color of the rails and the small seams that are found in them, says Wolfratshauser.

So far, so unspectacular - actually.

Because when a train crosses the three welding points, the peaceful quiet in the garden of the Lambls is over.

“I still saw the steam locomotives here,” reports the 67-year-old.

"Not even they were as loud as the noise the train is making now."

Did the track work not go perfectly?

Two minutes later, the train itself provides evidence of this: the train from Icking is approaching with a noticeable noise level.

Then it bangs.

Once, twice, a total of ten times in the same place.

"Here you can hear each axis individually," says Lambl.

And that in three ways because there are so many welds on the approximately 25 meter long section of rail.

"An imposition" is that in the eyes of his wife.

"The trains run from early in the morning until late at night, I regularly wake up from the noise."

Martin Lambl suspects that the work on the track did not go completely flawlessly.

He explains that when the second train approaches - this time from the opposite direction.

When the cars drive over the welds near the Weidach railway bridge, the metal sinks a little.

“That can't be good for the tracks,” says Lambl.

The railway responded to the complaint by email

He emailed Deutsche Bahn with a complaint about the noise - several times because he had not received an answer for days.

Then, almost no longer counting on it, a letter arrived in his electronic mailbox.

“I was assured that someone would take care of the matter,” recalls the 67-year-old.

Nothing happened.

So Lambl informed the police and a few hours later observed two employees of the transport company in orange vests on the track.

“When I wanted to explain to them what I was observing, they didn't even turn around to listen to me.” So Lambl stood at his garden fence and watched the two DB employees as they examined the place, making notes on one Clipboard made and left.

The noise stayed.

The family is not alone with their complaint.

"Many neighbors, actually everyone in the area, complained," says Christine Lambl.

“Most of them have received no response at all.” When asked by our newspaper, a spokesman for the railway contradicted: “Some residents have turned to DB Netz about the present case.

Of course, the letters from the residents were answered.

We also responded to the information. ”Specifically, that means:“ Grinding work ”had been carried out on the track sections concerned.

Rail operations are naturally associated with emissions ”.

A spokesman for Deutsche Bahn when asked by our newspaper

The fact that new weld seams were created in the track is related to the fact that "all systems are checked regularly" and are kept "in a proper and safe condition", said the group spokesman.

“Rail operations are naturally associated with emissions”.

This is no consolation for Martin and Christine Lambl.

The couple is at a loss.

“The last way I could still take is a noise complaint,” the pensioner notes.

Actually, he doesn't want that.

“But we also want to be able to sleep in peace”.
