These militias represent an unacceptable danger for everyone in Iraq, for diplomats and institutions, for Iraqi militants and their families
", denounced the spokeswoman for the US State Department Morgan Ortagus.
Seven women and children were killed on Monday by a rocket targeting Baghdad airport, where American soldiers are stationed, an unprecedented record in a country where these shots have nevertheless become almost daily.
Rocket fire
The new attack on US interests, the latest in a series of quarantines since early August, comes as Washington threatened to close its embassy and withdraw its 3,000 troops from Iraq if rocket fire did not stop.
This attack has not been claimed when usually obscure groups - false noses pro-Iran according to experts - claim to fire these rockets to drive "
the American occupier
" out of Iraq.

"
We have underlined in the past that the actions of anarchic militias supported by Iran remain the main factor of dissuasion for the stability in Iraq
", assured Ms. Ortagus in a statement.
US diplomacy urged Iraqi officials to "
act immediately
" to
hold those responsible
for the attack "
accountable
."
The heavy civilian toll places these groups in an uncomfortable position vis-à-vis public opinion overwhelmed by years of violence and ransom from the country's various armed factions.
