The Erding and Altenerding fire brigades will get modern and larger tool sheds in the next few years.

The district is docking with this million-dollar project by the city of Erding - with a new fire service center.

Erding - The old location at the station of the Erding fire brigade on Lebzelterstrasse has to give way.

Moreover, after 30 years it is too small and no longer up to date.

With the service center, all district brigades have a contact point for protective equipment, cleaning of protective clothing, maintenance of breathing apparatus, but also for training and disaster control.

The district committee approved the project.

The district councils also remembered the important hub function of the service center in the height of the corona pandemic and during the most recent flood disasters.

District Fire Councilor Willi Vogl reported to the committee that the service center has played a central role in fire protection for the entire district since 1989.

Here it is ensured that smaller fire brigades also have well-trained emergency services as well as well-maintained and repaired equipment.

As examples he cited the respiratory protection workshop as well as the testing of jump rescuers and lifting cushions, the distribution of medical supplies and protective clothing.

"Not every fire brigade can do that for itself," says Vogl.

The service center is playing an increasingly important role in education and training.

“In the past, the active went to the state fire brigade schools, for example in machinist training.

Today this is no longer possible due to capacity reasons.

The central facility of the district has taken over. ”The advantage: All fire fighters are on the same level, knowledge is communicated close to home.

District Administrator Martin Bayerstorfer (CSU) recalled that during the heyday of the corona pandemic, large quantities of disinfectants were used here and the emergency services received protective clothing and equipment every day between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m.

Vogl, on the other hand, looked back on the recent flood disasters, when tens of thousands of sandbags were filled at the service center, now using its own machine.

Hans Wiesmaier (CSU) asked about the scale of the project.

Willi Vogl spoke of around 4,000 square meters - including space for the district operations center in the event of major incidents.

District fire and district administrators have given consideration to creating sufficient storage capacity - especially to be able to intervene quickly in the event of a disaster.

The district is currently using the city's fire department depot on Kronthaler Weiher.

The only thing that is certain so far is that the new tool sheds will be built on Münchener Strasse / Wendelsteinstrasse in Altenerding and at the stadium in Erding.

Where the service center will be docked is still open, as are questions about the start of construction and costs.

The district committee unanimously took the decision to make the big hit.
