(CNN Spanish) -

Carabineros de Chile began the process of expelling the agent accused of causing the fall of a teenager to a bridge during a demonstration for carrying a personal camera.

In a statement published this Tuesday, they report that the policeman's defense informed the prosecution that on October 2, the day of the incidents in Santiago, he was carrying a camera outside the institution and not authorized.

"The omission of this fact constitutes a serious administrative fault, since there are instructions that regulate the use of personal cameras in police procedures," they said.

They added that non-compliance with this protocol "is unacceptable" and is grounds for expulsion from the institution, which is why they started the corresponding process.

On Sunday, a court decided to impose preventive detention on the police officer who was accused of attempted murder.

His defense argued that the agent acted in accordance with the protocols and made "use of the minimum possible force to apply."

President Sebastián Piñera condemned and regretted the events while rejecting any deviation from the protocols and rules that govern the actions of the security forces.

He expressed his support for the Carabineros de Chile for its role in protecting public order and stated that both the government and that institution made all the information available to the authorities to carry out an investigation to clarify the facts.

The Santa María clinic, where the 16-year-old is hospitalized, reported Monday that he is stable and is progressing favorably after double wrist surgery.
