The head of the Iranian President’s office, Mahmoud Vaezi, expressed his country's readiness to play a more active role in the context of resolving the differences between the republics of Azerbaijan and Armenia over the disputed Nagorno Karabakh region between the two countries.
Fars News Agency quoted Vaezi as saying during a phone call today with Assistant Prime Minister of Azerbaijan Shaheen Mustafa Of that Tehran welcomes Baku's proposal on playing a more active role on the part of Iran, Russia and Turkey to support peace and stability in the region.
While welcoming the ceasefire in the region, Vaezi called on the governments of the Republic of Azerbaijan and Armenia to maintain the ceasefire and resolve their differences through dialogue and within the framework of international law, respect for the recognized borders and the two countries' sovereignty over their territories.
In his turn, the Azerbaijani Prime Minister’s Assistant stressed that Baku calls for a more active role on the part of Iran, Russia and Turkey to solve the problems in the region.
