2020-10-16T11:28:11.327Z

The average age of the 312 alleged victims retained by the investigators is 11 years. The ex-surgeon, indicted Thursday, retained the details of his attacks in "computer files classified and kept for more than 25 years".

An "

unusual

", "

extraordinary

", "

unsustainable

"

affair

.

Words fail the Lorient prosecutor to qualify the incredible case that was formed against the former surgeon Joël Le Scouarnec, now aged 70, and indicted Thursday, October 15 for rape and sexual assault on hundreds of victims, mainly minors.

Arrested in November 2017 following exhaustive searches, the former caregiver has since been the subject of a horrific investigation, revealing "

until nausea

" the sordid details of his acts, for which he incurs, "

in application of French law which does not allow any accumulation

”, a single maximum main sentence of 20 years of criminal imprisonment, according to the magistrate Stéphane Kellenberg.

Details classified, preserved, rich in details "difficult to bear"

The abjection is such that Le Scouarnec recorded the details of his crimes not in

handwritten "

horror notebooks

", as long imagined, but in "

tables, computer files chronologically established, classified, kept for more than 25 years. years

”.

These "

trying

" data ranged "

from a few repetitive lines, sometimes re-used in a stereotypical way, not to say compulsive from one victim to another

", to certain elaborate, detailed paragraphs, rich in "

hardly bearable

" details.

For the first time, the public prosecutor of Lorient specified the number of presumed victims of Le Scouarnec, having acted in 18 hospitals in western France since 1986: 312. To which are added 31 identifiable victims, but in situations "

definitively prescribed

" or "

impossible to sufficiently characterize

".

These alleged victims were, for the most part, "

in a state of drowsiness, induced by anesthetic substances, as well as by sedations and other medically applied treatments or by fatigue or pain.

Some were therefore unable to realize the facts committed against them.

The average age of the victims is 11 years old

The average age of the 312 victims, 11, makes this survey the largest pedophilia case in France.

In detail, the prosecutor referred to some "

chilling statistics

", without wanting that these people are summarized in simple numbers: 349 potential victims, including 312 retained for the investigation, in 28 years of alleged abuses, between 1986 and 2014;

164 of them were male, 148 female;

298 victims were under 20, and 265 were under 15;

107 facts are likely to be qualified as "aggravated rape", 205 are likely to be qualified as "aggravated sexual assault".

Le Scouarnec attended 18 hospitals in the west of France.

There are 29 victims in Indre-et-Loire, 213 in Morbihan, 39 in Finistère, 31 in Orne, Loire-Atlantique, Vendée and Charente-Maritime.

Faced with these figures and at the end of his hearing, Joël Le Scouarnec "

was rather distant and detached, taking refuge not in denial, but in an alleged absence - some might say opportune - of memories

" , according to the prosecutor.

He still “

ended up conceding certain facts, while concluding that he regretted the harm he could have caused

”.

Detained in Saintes, the former surgeon is awaiting trial for other facts by the Charente-Maritime Assize Court from November 30.
