Hong Kong Airlines has launched an unpaid leave plan for its logistics employees. From next month to March next year, employees will take up to 4 days of unpaid leave each month. Employees will also receive a 5 to 15% pay reduction according to their ranks.

"Hong Kong 01" made an inquiry to Hong Kong Airlines. A company spokesperson said: "We are committed to ensuring that most of the employees' jobs will remain unchanged. The implementation of travel restrictions in various places continues to hit our business hard, resulting in the reduction of operations to several weekly passenger services and temporary cargo Charter flights. In addition, the subsidy received from the government can only bring some relief to our business.

We have called on the logistics staff in Hong Kong to continue to participate in the new round of unpaid leave plans, but the pay cut will be reduced.

The salary of employees from November 2020 to March 2021 will be reduced by 5% to 15% according to their ranks, and up to 4 days of unpaid leave per month will be taken.

Most of the pilots and cabin crew also agreed to participate in the unpaid leave program recently launched for them.

Hong Kong Airlines will closely monitor the market conditions, adjust the company's business operations accordingly, and strive to shorten this unpaid leave plan when the situation improves.

Up to 4 unpaid leave per month

"Apple Daily" reported that Hong Kong Airlines launched a voluntary "Unpaid Leave 3.0" program.

The report pointed out that the second round of "Protecting Employment" plan approved by Hong Kong Airlines was not enough to support the pressure of salary payment. It appealed to employees to participate together and hinted that if the plan is supported by employees, it may be exempt from layoffs.

According to the "Apple Daily" quoted by the Hong Kong Airlines to Hong Kong-based ground staff internal notice, "Unpaid Leave 3.0" from the 1st of next month to the end of March next year, the plan is equivalent to a 5 to 15% salary reduction for employees, depending on Employees of different ranks and supervisors or below are required to take 2 to 4 days of unpaid leave each month.

Hong Kong Airlines pointed out that this plan is voluntary. If employees choose not to participate, they will continue to pay. However, if they do not get support from employees, there will be no cost savings.

When tourism demand recovers, Hong Kong Airlines will increase flights. Therefore, it regards the staff surplus as a short-term problem, and whether it will lay off staff depends on the level of staff participation.

The plan will end on the 27th of this month.
