Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif reiterated his country's refusal to enter an arms race in the region.
"Despite the end of the arms embargo on Iran, it has no plans to buy weapons on a large scale, nor does it intend to trigger an arms race in the region," Zarif said in a speech to the virtual UN meeting on Gulf security today.
On the other hand, Zarif referred to the large arms sales by the United States to the countries of the region and said, “From 2014 to 2018, a quarter of the world’s arms sales were in countries in the region,” adding, “We can choose between remaining prisoners of the past and not ending instability or We choose peace and security for all. ”
And Zarif confirmed in a tweet on his Twitter page yesterday that the end of the arms embargo imposed on his country is a "victory for pluralism, security and peace in the region."
