Corona makes life much more complicated: At the time of a cold, many parents ask themselves one question: Can my child with a runny nose go to daycare?
The rules for this differ in the districts depending on the
Corona *
situation.
Many families are therefore insecure - and many paediatricians are overburdened.
Munich / Fürstenfeldbruck - There is a
state of emergency
in the AWO kindergarten Brucker Strolche in
Fürstenfeldbruck
.
The district is a Corona hotspot, last week the
7-day incidence value was
over 100. Therefore, strict rules also apply to the daycare centers: shift care, separate groups with a maximum of 13 children, mask requirement all day for the educators and for the parents, if they are theirs Bringing or picking up children - this is the new everyday life for the Bruck rascals.
“Of course it's not easy for the families,”
says manager Antje Weiß.
Many parents would have already used up their vacation during the daycare center closings in spring and now have to organize childcare again.
“The vast majority still understand,” says Weiß.
What exacerbates the situation: It's cold season - and in the Fürstenfeldbruck district, children with mild cold symptoms such as a
runny nose are
no longer allowed to go to daycare centers.
“It depends on the general condition,” explains Weiß.
"In case of doubt, we also consult with the health department."
Coronavirus Bavaria: The three-step plan for daycare centers applies
Basically, a three-step plan applies to daycare centers in Bavaria: “We want to relieve parents and protect employees,” emphasizes Family Minister Carolina Trautner (CSU).
“Maintaining daycare is still a priority for us.”
Children with a fever, severe cough, sore throat or ear pain, stomach pain, vomiting or diarrhea have to stay at home
.
At levels one and two of the plan, however, children with a slight runny nose and occasional cough are allowed to continue attending the day care center without a fever and without contact with corona infected people.
At level three, this is only allowed with a negative corona test.
"The responsible health department decides which level applies to child day care," explains a spokesman for the Ministry of Family Affairs.
Even in districts in which the corona traffic light is red with a 7-day incidence of over 50, the third stage does not necessarily have to come into force.
"Rather, the
health authorities
analyze the
situation on site and then decide which measures are to be initiated based on the local infection situation in the daycare area," says the spokesman.
In practice, this is regulated differently in the districts
and can change.
The uncertainty is high among many parents and institutions, according to Dominik Ewald, Bavarian state chairman of the professional association of paediatricians.
“Often the wearers also have different concepts and stricter rules,” he reports.
"This creates a mess." The result: "The colleagues are overloaded and the practices overcrowded."
Incidentally, the same applies to schools.
Students with mild symptoms of colds * must present a medical certificate in order to be allowed to go back to school.
The paediatricians therefore rotate.
Coronavirus Bavaria: "Children with a cold actually do not have to be presented to the practice"
Because more and more parents would get a medical certificate because of little things as a precaution or because they are required to do so - even if it were not necessary from a medical point of view.
"Children with a cold actually don't have to be introduced to the practice,"
says Ewald.
“You should also rely on common sense.” In general, children with a fever should not go to daycare.
It is different depending on the situation with only mild
cold symptoms
.
"But of course it doesn't hurt if the child stays at home as a precaution, if the parents can arrange it." He also advocates that educators wear mouth and nose covers throughout.
“Children are quite able to recognize facial expressions despite a mask,” he says.
With the Brucker
rascals
there is no problem with the
mask requirement
for the
educators
.
“The children have already got used to it,” says Antje Weiß.
“We also have some transparent masks.” A bit of
normality
should remain: the children are looking forward to Halloween.
A big party was actually planned.
"Now there are several Halloween days so that every child can celebrate," says Weiß.
"We try to keep everyday life as
good
as possible."
