Lattakia Agriculture Directorate announced that it will start filling out forms for verifying fire damage from tomorrow, according to which farmers affected by the fires that have recently erupted in some villages and towns in the governorate will receive their dues.

The Director of Lattakia Agriculture, Engineer Munther Khair Bek, explained in a statement to SANA that the quantity of production for the affected trees was estimated according to the statistical tour that the Directorate made in the seventh month of this year, as the average production at the governorate level, which varies according to the agricultural region, according to the following: Citrus 58 kg For one tree, olives 4.5 kg for one tree, and apples 26 kg for one tree.

Khair Bek indicated that after the agricultural damages, tree, production and livestock damages were counted through the spatial committees formed in the affected villages and farms, which reached 101 spatial committees, starting from tomorrow, verification forms will start, according to which the affected farmers will receive their dues.

The compensation of the affected farmers will be according to Khair Bek according to the following: “Cash compensation for the damaged production is calculated by estimating the production of the affected trees in kilograms for each variety and according to the estimates received within the statistical round. A gram of citrus fruits and 500 pounds for every kilogram of production from other fruitful trees “After that, the forms are approved by the spatial, subsidiary and executive committees, to begin the process of disbursing the first part of the compensation as of next Thursday 5-11-2020, provided that the remaining sums owed to the farms are scheduled And it will be delivered in two quarters during the years 2021 and 2022, as for the dead plants, they will be recorded within the same verification form from 1-12-2020, and the farmer can receive it from the nurseries of the Agriculture Directorate for free at the start of the planting distribution season.

Khair Bek indicated that the olive production this season was free-floating, “that is, what the trees bear this year is less than last year.” The statistical committees estimated production in the governorate in the fifth and seventh months at 42 thousand tons, while the production last season reached 200 thousand tons in the same period.
