After the tribute paid in Paris to the victims of the attacks of November 13, 2015, Prime Minister Jean Castex visited the University Hospitals of Strasbourg (Bas-Rhin) site on Friday to meet the healthcare teams mobilized in the fight against the Covid-19.
Since the start of the second wave of the coronavirus epidemic in France, the Prime Minister has visited hospitals on several occasions, in contact with frontline caregivers.
On the site of the civilian hospital, Jean Castex notably spoke with caregivers from the infectious diseases department, whose 23 beds are exclusively occupied by Covid patients, all on oxygen.
The service has welcomed 350 patients since the start of the epidemic: 200 in the first wave, 150 in the second.
"Young people feel invincible"
The average age of patients is 60 years.
But in the service, two patients are 29 years old and half are under 65, told him the head of the infectious diseases service, Nicolas Lefebvre.
“I try to hammer home that this is not a disease reserved for the elderly.
I understand that young people feel invincible and feel safe, but unfortunately this is not true ”, insists the Prime Minister.
"This is what you need to help me make it clear.
You have to make sure that as few people as possible arrive at your home, ”he told the caregivers.

Jean Castex also sent a message of support to caregivers during his visit to the intensive care unit, explaining to a health executive that there would be "a gesture" within the framework of the Ségur de la Santé.
"You'll watch," he whispers.
"This crisis has united the entire health community, everyone is on the bridge and not counting their hours," greets the head of government.
Two girls born in Strasbourg
More lightly, the Prime Minister also confessed, at the beginning of the visit, that he knew the Strasbourg hospital well, where two of his four daughters were born.
“For the first one, with my wife when we went out with the baby, we were stuck in the elevator for 25 minutes,” he says.
