A figure of unionism from the Fresnes remand center was sentenced to eight months in prison for fraud and money laundering, the Créteil prosecutor's office said on Wednesday, confirming information from the Parisian.

Frédéric Godet, 52, former local secretary of the Ufap-Unsa de Fresnes union, admitted having embezzled nearly 18,000 euros from the budget of the association managing the canteen (the "
mess
") for prison staff, of which he was the President.
Sentenced on Tuesday as part of a prior admission of guilt, he was also prohibited from exercising the presidency of the association for five years.
Frédéric Godet had already resigned from his function of president of mess, targeted by an internal investigation.
Contacted by AFP, the trade unionist declined to comment.
According to his lawyer, quoted by the Parisian, he reimbursed the embezzled sum.
During the board of directors noting his resignation, Godet had expressed "
personal concerns with his son
", which "
would have pushed
" to divert these funds, said people present at the board.
The facts date back to 2019. Frédéric Godet, then president of the mess, asks to subscribe to a new insurance contract, up to 15,000 euros, while the mess is already insured, according to a source familiar with the matter.
An “
insurance contribution
” line is therefore added to the accounts, and money transferred monthly.
Accounts validated by the association's treasurer.
Except that some internal research will reveal the non-existence of this new insurance contract.
An investigation was opened by the prosecution last September, following a report from the prison management: it revealed facts of fraud from April to December 2019, and facts of laundering of the proceeds of the scam, from July 2019 to last February.
The criminal investigation is now complete, but disciplinary proceedings may follow within the prison.
In addition, an audit is currently underway in the five messes in public management of Île-de-France, according to the Ile-de-France interregional direction of the prison administration.
