France is setting up a "repairability index" for electronic products

2020-12-28T18:59:22.445Z

DECRYPTION - It will indicate which smartphones, PCs or washing machines are easily repairable. An ecological advance.

After the energy label, here is the repairability index of electronic devices or household appliances.

From January 1, manufacturers and distributors, whether online or in stores, will have to indicate the “repairability index” for several product categories.

For the moment, the list of devices retained by the legislator has everything from the Prévert inventory.

There is a jumble of smartphones, computers, televisions, but also washing machines and electric lawn mowers.

The criteria used to establish the repairability of equipment are common to all.

The rating grid varies, however, from one category to another.

Each criterion is noted and the average obtained by the equipment will appear on a label.

It will therefore be a simple score out of ten and not a color code as for energy consumption.

This memo aims to help consumers choose which devices can be repaired and not simply thrown away.
