The best-selling cars in France in 2020

2020-12-29T19:02:28.374Z

NEWS - Voted Car of the Year 2020, the Peugeot 208 has become the favorite car of the French. In front of the Renault Clio.

The year 2020 will remain a dark year.

Due to the health crisis, sales of private vehicles slipped 27% to 1,463,725 units over the first eleven months of this particular vintage.

If December is happy to smile a little, the drop should be around 25% over 12 months.

Despite this spectacular fall, certain indicators are likely to put balm in the heart.

French manufacturers succeed in ranking 14 of their models among the top 15.

And again, the odd one out, the Toyota Yaris ranked 11th, is produced in France, in the Valenciennes plant.

The main event of this provisional ranking (11 months) comes from the performance of the new Peugeot 208. The latest generation of the Sochalian city car has succeeded in dethroning the Renault Clio, renewed a few months earlier, from first place.

Peugeot executives have therefore fulfilled the objective they had set for themselves.

A symbolic victory because the gap between the two flagship models of the French market is small.

Less than 10,000 units separate the two city cars at the end of November, 82,432 units against 73,436 units with the model decorated with the diamond.

It is not impossible that the Clio V will return to its rival, over the months and depending on the rise of the E-Tech hybrid model.

The other event of the year 2020 is the speed of the rise in power of the new generation of the Peugeot 2008. In just a few months, the last compact SUV of the Franche-Comté firm has climbed to the third step. the podium, taking the place of its big brother, the Peugeot 3008 demoted to seventh place.

Like last year, the Citroën C3 finished at the foot of the podium with 52,647 units.

The city car with the chevrons is ahead of the Dacia Sandero, which remains the first car sold to individuals.

Renewed last year and available in a plug-in hybrid version, the Renault Captur takes 6th place in the ranking.

If we can congratulate ourselves on the success of the French models, it mainly concerns entry and mid-range vehicles which, for the most part, are not even produced on French territory.

It is unfortunate for the public finances, the models with high added value, more and more taxed, are relegated to the rank of foil.

The DS7 occupies the 37th place, the Peugeot 508 the 42nd place.

Sign of the decline of minivans, the Renault Grand Scenic ranks 48th with 8,345 units (11 months 2020).

The ranking of the top 100 models on the market provides a worrying picture of the downgrading of France and the decline of its automotive industry.

The increase in taxation decided by parliamentarians in the framework of the 2021 finance law will only worsen an already gloomy situation where the drop in tax revenues and the trade deficit of the auto sector are combined.
