Rabbi Chaim Kanievsky, one of the leaders of the ultra-Orthodox public, was asked yesterday (Tuesday) whether to continue his studies at ultra-Orthodox educational institutions, despite the strict closure approved by the government, and answered contradictory answers - Walla learned!

NEWS.

In a meeting with Jerusalem Mayor Moshe Leon, the rabbi said that in light of the disease situation, the educational institutions should be closed under certain conditions, and in a later meeting, attended by Rabbi Avraham Finzel, director of an educational institution in Jerusalem, Rabbi Kanievsky replied that studies should be continued. Hygiene and social distance.

Rabbi Kanievsky is the leader of the Lithuanian current in the ultra-Orthodox sector, but his instructions also affect sections of the Hasidic and Sephardic public.

In a meeting with the mayor of Jerusalem, Leon presented the rabbi with an outline for closing the educational institutions in Jerusalem, according to which the institutions will be closed only on condition that there is a hermetic closure and for a period of only two weeks, during which teaching staff will also be vaccinated.

Leon even promised that the Jerusalem municipality would assist in the distance learning of the students from a distance.

The rabbi responded that these are conditions under which the educational institutions for boys can be closed.

However, at a later meeting, Rabbi Finzel, director of Talmud Torah Hachmat Shlomo in Jerusalem, asked whether, in light of the illness, studies in white institutions should be suspended, and the rabbi replied that he should continue studying, despite the closure.

Sources in the rabbi's house claimed that "a final decision has not yet been made, the discussion around the issue is still ongoing."

A senior ultra-Orthodox source explained to Walla!

NEWS that if there is significant enforcement during the closure, even if there is an instruction from the rabbi to continue studies, "it will not be technically possible," in his words.

He explained that "buses will not be able to pass police checkpoints in every neighborhood, it will not work. So the whole discussion at the moment is purely theoretical. One has to wait for official instruction from the rabbi's house."

The discussion about the continued existence of studies in the Lithuanian current only applies to white educational institutions.

It is estimated that all girls' educational institutions of all ages will remain closed.

Rabbi Kanievsky's teaching has an impact not only on the Lithuanian current, but it is estimated that extremist groups in Mea Shearim or the Jerusalem faction will continue to conduct their studies in secret, as some did in the first and second waves, while the government banned it.
