Large police forces raided the village of Turaan early Sunday morning, arresting 145 people on suspicion of involvement in violent brawls, arson and shootings.
250 policemen, including YSM forces and Border Police fighters, raided the village following a series of violent incidents over the weekend, as part of a family conflict over the election.
These arrests are in addition to 11 suspects arrested over the weekend, some of whom were caught with weapons, including a Carlo rifle, a launch gun, Molotov cocktails and a grenade.
The detention of those suspects was extended in the Magistrate's Court at the request of the police.
Police forces remained in place to maintain public order and prevent further fights between the families involved.
The police said: "I take very serious incidents of violence in general, with an emphasis on incidents involving personalities in public office, and the police will use all means and planes to locate those violent criminals and bring them to justice.
