The library in Taufkirchen reacted at lightning speed.

Readers were able to borrow media there again on Sunday with Click & Collect.

The demand is great.

Taufkirchen

- The Taufkirchen bookworms are enthusiastic.

“It's great that you're back!” These and other similar e-mails have been in the library since Friday.

With a Click & Collect offer, i.e. ordering the media on the Internet and then picking it up yourself, head Brita Schild reopened for the first time on Sunday morning.

And there was a coming and going at the parish center where the library is located.

Some of them had been waiting longingly to pick up books, newspapers or audio books.

This was confirmed by Stefan Christofori from Taufkirchen and Birgit Pichlmeier from Moosen, who attended their appointment with a backpack and shopping basket.

With this system, the ordered media can only be picked up in the entrance area of the library by appointment and contactless.

Accordingly, the two loyal readers had to work through lists for the whole family with two children each.

Teacher Christofori packed four books.

Pichlmeier ordered ten media - the maximum number.

“We are very happy that we can borrow again because our children love to read and listen to.

We also used the Onleihe-Süd very diligently, especially to listen to books for the children, ”says the 43-year-old.

Library manager Schild and her team are just as happy that they can finally publish their media again.

They were able to gain their first experience with this system in December, when the libraries had to close on the first of the month due to Corona regulations, but orders were still possible.

"Many people knew about the closure beforehand and stocked up accordingly in advance," she says now.

Those who hadn't noticed at the time would have stocked up on reading material by ordering for Christmas.

"Over the holidays, when all the children are at home, you have to read a lot, that's for sure," says Schild, who is herself the mother of two adult sons.

"In mid-December it was suddenly banned" - a nuisance not only for library users, but also for the volunteer team.

When Click & Collect was made possible for the shops but not for the libraries, “we were naturally angry,” Schild admits.

But many people would have worked to make it work again.

Including SPD councilor Manfred Slawny, who only noticed the misery when he wanted to borrow something himself, she says.

He therefore turned to Taufkirchen's mayor, Stefan Haberl, with her.

He came back to the library in person last Saturday and had a close look at everything, he even brought FFP2 masks for the volunteers.

"Now we and our readers are happy that we can borrow again," explains Schild.

The news about the reopening quickly made the rounds.

As soon as Schild heard from the Bavarian Council of Ministers that Click & Collect is possible again, she spread this on the library's Facebook page, the community page, her own catalog and via the local newspaper.

"The response was enormous."

The lead time was barely enough to process all inquiries.

She picked out the first orders on Friday, and three of her colleagues helped put together the wishes on Saturday.

Schild was also there early on Sunday.

Appointments were made every ten minutes, but the two and a half hours of serving time were not enough to put all orders on the table at the entrance and have them picked up.

“We didn't all make it,” regrets the library manager.

But she is happy that the rest of the readers were put off until Tuesday or Thursday.

In the coming days the demand will definitely be better distributed again, she says.

Employee Bernadette Heimerl is also happy that something is working again.

“But it would be even nicer otherwise.

We are happy to put in extra shifts if necessary. "
